**Lesson Plan: Basic Science and Technology**
**Grade Level:** Primary 1
**Topic:** Concept of Technology + Booting + Cleanliness
---
### **Objective:**
- Understand the basic concept of technology.
- Learn the simple process of booting a computer.
- Understand the importance of cleanliness and how it relates to technology.
---
### **Materials Needed:**
- Flashcards with images (computers, phones, tablets)
- A computer or laptop
- Cleaning supplies (wipes, cloth)
- Printed handouts with pictures related to the lesson
---
### **Lesson Duration:**
- **Total Time:** 60 minutes
---
### **Lesson Steps:**
#### **1. Introduction to Technology (15 minutes)**
**A. Warm-Up (5 minutes)**
- Start with a simple question: "What is technology?"
- Show flashcards with images of various technological devices (e.g., computers, tablets, phones).
- Allow students to share what they think each device does.
**B. Explanation (10 minutes)**
- Define technology as "tools and machines that help us do things easier and faster."
- Explain, with examples, how technology is part of our daily lives (e.g., watching TV, using a calculator, playing video games).
#### **2. Booting a Computer (20 minutes)**
**A. Introduction (5 minutes)**
- Explain that "booting" means turning on a computer.
- Show and point to the power button on a computer/laptop.
**B. Demonstration (10 minutes)**
- Physically demonstrate how to boot a computer:
- Step 1: Press the power button.
- Step 2: Wait for the computer to start and show the main screen.
- Explain that a computer needs time to "wake up" and get ready for use.
**C. Hands-On Practice (5 minutes)**
- If possible, allow a few students to take turns booting the computer under supervision.
#### **3. Cleanliness and Technology (25 minutes)**
**A. Discussion (10 minutes)**
- Discuss with students why it's important to keep technology clean:
- Germs and dust can damage devices.
- Clean devices work better and last longer.
- Show cleaning materials and explain their use.
**B. Demonstration (10 minutes)**
- Demonstrate how to properly clean a computer and other devices:
- Step 1: Turn off the device.
- Step 2: Use a soft, dry cloth or wipes to gently clean the screen, keyboard, and mouse.
- Step 3: Avoid using too much liquid to prevent damage.
**C. Hands-On Practice (5 minutes)**
- Hand out wipes/cloth to students and let them practice cleaning a computer with guidance.
#### **4. Review and Wrap-Up (10 minutes)**
- Recap the main points of the lesson:
- What is technology?
- How to boot a computer.
- Importance of keeping technology clean.
- Allow students to ask questions and provide answers.
- Hand out printed materials with pictures that summarize the lesson points.
### **Assessment:**
- Observe students’ participation and engagement during hands-on activities.
- Ask students to explain the steps of booting a computer and why cleanliness is important for technology.
---
### **Extension Activities:**
- Draw and color a picture of their favorite technological device.
- Create a "cleaning schedule" chart to take home to remind them to clean their devices regularly.
---
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to explain the concept of technology, demonstrate how to boot a computer, and understand the importance of keeping their devices clean.
